LODka 3D

A powerful free alternative to MilkShape. We included it in this list because, like Xtreme3D, it is written in GLScene. This demonstrates their perfect compatibility, so LODka can be considered an editor for Xtreme3D.

As the name suggests, LODka is a low-poly editor for creating LOD versions of high-poly models. It supports a large number of 3D formats, includes a polygonal modeling mode, a huge list of primitives and an impressive set of tools, supports materials, has a built-in lightmapper for creating lightmaps, tools for creating skeletal and vertex animation, and much more.

Unfortunately, for some reason it is no longer available for download from the official website, so we have made it available on our site. Interestingly, the program's author, who seemed to have abandoned his project long ago, has unexpectedly appeared several times with new releases (the last time in December 2013).

The latest version of LODka3D from 01.12.2013 (1.9 MB)

The previous version of LODka3D was 1.53 (1.1 Mb)

Anim8tor

A classic 3D editor that was once the most popular free alternative to 3ds Max for beginners. Essentially, it's a complete 3D graphics studio: you can model, rig, and render animations. All the basic modeling, material creation, and animation tools are supported. Anim8tor supports 3DS, LWO, OBJ, and VTX formats. In 2017, after 18 years of development, the program finally reached version 1.0, which featured an improved graphical interface, added inverse kinematics support, a topology knife tool, object layer support, normal maps, and much more.

Teddy

A sketching program that generates three-dimensional shapes based on user-defined contours. You draw a circle on the screen with your mouse cursor, and in a moment, it turns into a sphere. You can also draw more complex structures, Teddy automatically recognizes what you intended and creates the object with maximum precision. The archive also includes SmoothTeddy, a version of Teddy with coloring support, and Squirrel, an animating tool for Teddy models.

Sculptris

A sculpting program, freeware alternative to ZBrush. Developed by Thomas Petersson in 2009, it was later acquired by Pixologic and released as a companion to ZBrush. In 2020, Sculptris was discontinued in favor of the similar product ZBrushCoreMini. It is no longer available for download from the Pixologic website.
