In 2009-2010, the Gecko website administrator worked on his own 3D engine for Game Maker, Phantom3D, written in C++ and powered by OpenGL and a number of open-source libraries. It supported MS3D models, multiple graphics formats (via the DevIL library), physics (ODE), shaders, dynamic water, and more. The project was never completed; these developments later formed the basis for a standalone engine of the same name, using the AngelScript scripting language. Its development, however, was also discontinued, and part of the source code was ported to the D language, becoming part of the dlib library and the DGL graphics engine.
All source code for these projects is available for use for any purpose (distributed under the BSD license).
