A collection of the best games created using the classic GameMaker. We include not only 3D games, but also any games of note or historical interest.
Genre: action
Developer: Fionn Hodgson
Year of release: 2007-2022
A clone of the classic top-down GTA games (1, 2, and London 1969). A project with a long history. Many have created various top-down shooters using GM, but Total Anarchy stands apart as one of the most complete projects. The first version of the game was released back in 2007 under the name Pavilion City, and in 2008 it was renamed Total Anarchy. A year later, the author completely rebuilt the engine. The game used Game Maker's built-in 3D mode and models converted using Marzipan. Surprisingly, Fionn Hodgson remained involved with the community in the following years, quietly continuing to work on the project. The current version is 0.8 beta, built using Game Maker Studio 1.4.
Everything about this game is impressive: the graphics style, the car physics, the lighting effects, the interactivity of the world, the soundtrack. TA includes many features and interesting details that weren't in the original GTA and other similar games, such as changing weather conditions, pedestrians talking to each other, the ability to shoot from a car, enter buildings, and much more.
Genre: simulator, survival
Developer: JTR
Year of release: 2007
One of the most popular games on the classic GM. It's a simulator of a giant predatory worm based on the Tremors franchise. The worm moves underground and can surface to devour someone. Controlling the worm, you must hunt and gain weight, while humans also try to destroy you—the longer you survive, the more soldiers and military equipment they throw at you. The game is quite addictive. A game series of the same name with similar mechanics was later released for iOS and Android.

This tribute to the famous Doom is notable for being one of the first 3D games ever made in GM. It was made with Gadget3D, without the use of external 3D engines. A 2D action game with RPG elements set in a fantasy universe. You play as an archer, the former crown prince of the kingdom of Zitro, who fell victim to a conspiracy plot by his younger brother. The hero seeks revenge on his family for betraying him. The gameplay is largely physics-based, featuring original movement mechanics using an anti-gravity beam. The game features very good graphics for its time. Technically, Stegno is one of the highest-quality Russian GM projects of the 2000s.
It was initially a commercial game, but the author later made the game freely available. For a long time, it seemed the game was lost forever, but we managed to find a copy in the web archive of gmakers.ru.
