Quake 2, a favorite game of the 90s modders, gifted the amateur gamedev community with dozens of freely available character models in MD2 format. These are true works of art. Now, in the HD era, such high-quality and detailed low-poly models are, of course, no longer made. Most of these rarities are now difficult to find online, so we've decided to publish our MD2 collection, accumulated over many years, here. All models are fully compatible with Xtreme3D.
Dragon Knight is a very impressive model, ill-suited for Quake 2 due to its excessive scale, but well-suited for use in a standalone game project. It features a knight riding a bipedal dragon and armed with a spear and sword.
Dr Freakenstein is a mad scientist riding a two-wheeled wheelchair. A very unusual model, which has made it quite popular. The set includes a normal map, a rarity for MD2 models.
Hueteotl is the Aztec god Hueteotl in the guise of a reanimated mummy. The model has four skin variants. Hueteotl wields a massive wooden mace with spikes.
Perilith Knight is a fantasy character originally made for the role-playing game Perilith, developed using the Quake 2 engine. The game was never released, but the character model survived and has since been used in various demos and engines. This knight's unique feature is the complete replacement of weapons: blasters and shotguns are replaced with swords, axes, and crossbows. There are also four skin options.
Battle Droid is a top-notch Trade Federation battle droid. Perfect for a Star Wars fan game. There are seven different skins, plus sounds.
Battle Droid 2 is another great battle droid, no less high-quality than the previous one. Polycount.com even conducted a detailed comparison between these models at one time, but was unable to determine a clear winner. Includes 4 skins and voice acting.
Boba Fett. And what would Star Wars be without Boba Fett, the invulnerable bounty hunter? This model includes 5 skins.
Homer Simpson. A famous character who needs no introduction. A very funny model with talented animation, perfect for a Simpsons fan game. There are 7 skins available. Homer uses a shotgun as a weapon.
Hobgoblin. A decent model of a hobgoblin.
Imp. A model based on the imp from the classic Doom series. It could be used in a fan remake of Doom.
Blade. Blade the vampire slayer, a Marvel superhero.
Crafty. A girl with a gun.
Waste. A post-apocalyptic bounty hunter.
SuperFlashOmegaDragon8. A combatant resembling a Latin American guerrilla fighter.
MD5 models (Doom 3) with skeletal animation.
Bob with Lamp is a good character model for a medieval-themed game. However, Bob is too popular to be used seriously in a game project, he appears in various demos every now and then. Furthermore, the author prohibits commercial use. The archive includes the original Blender model.
Batgirl is a model of the superheroine Batgirl (Barbara Gordon). It was created in 2007 for the corresponding game by Cage, of which a demo still exists – find it in the Games section.
Hellknight is the famous model from Doom 3, which has become the de facto standard asset for bump mapping testing. The archive includes two animations and a normal map.
SMD (Half-Life 2) models with skeletal animation.
Trinity. Trinity model from The Matrix.
Spyro and Hunter. Characters from Spyro the Dragon PlayStation series. These models are not rips, they were recreated from scratch as faithfully as possible to the original. Could be useful for a Spyro fan game. A Blender project file is included.
